Hold Your Nerve – the first test of the fast

English: First 4 digits of a credit card

The fashion mister (husband) is already testing me and it’s only day 3 of the shopping fast!

First, I get home from work last night and he tells me the credit card company has called to tell me to “get well and get shopping”! And then today he wants to go out for a wander around shops where I would normally find at least one thing to buy. Who would have thought there were so many knitted and felted, scarves and hats, that I never knew I wanted!

I managed to hold my nerve and didn’t purchase a single thing. However, I have decided that I will look over the clothing and accessory purchases from the past 90 days, total up the amount spent and at the end of this fast reward myself with half that amount to add a few special pieces to wardrobe. I’m actually looking forward to the challenges of shopping from my closet, not purchasing anything new and then being really focused on what I want to add. It’s highly likely there will be a major list of what I want that will get narrowed down to what I think I can’t live without.

My Vogue, MarieClaire and Bazaar magazines will be gone through over and over, pages torn out of the items I covet, and eventually I will find myself sitting at the computer trying to find the items I love at the absolute best price so I will be able to get that much more!

*shivers run down my spine at the thought of it all*

I need to focus!

I was thinking today about why would anyone bother to read what I have to say about fashion or my shopping in my own wardrobe, and to be honest…I’m still not completely sure! But what I do know, is that most fashion blogs are aimed at those half my age, whose bodies haven’t started to go south for the winter, and whose budgets don’t have to cover mortgage payments. What I can share with you is not just a love of fashion, but my almost obsession with mixing the inexpensive with the expensive. Where expensive was bought at a discount or end-of-season. Because you see, basically, I’m a tight-wad. I like to make sure that I can wear my fashionable clothes when I go out to a nice restaurant, open a lovely bottle of wine with friends or take a great trip with the fashion mister.

You are also going to get the wisdom of my age. Or at least me commenting on fashion from a perspective that isn’t 25, perky or perfect shape. Because let’s face it, I am none of those things!

Hopefully, you are still game for the ride! I’m pretty excited by it.
