The Last Tangerine Tango – Vintage

For our last Tango with Tangerine…for now anyway…we’ll have a look at some vintage items.

Just knowing that Tangerine Tango is Pantones colour of 2012 would make you think that there couldn’t be much vintage out there in this juicy hue. I’m here to tell you, that is not true! If you go to, click on vintage and type in “Orange”, after all “Tangerine Tango” is the 2012 version of this fruity fixture, there are over 52,000 items. There are even some stunning vintage designer pieces that look as fantastic today as when they were first given life. I have chosen to collect the slightly quirky and unique to share with you. That way you can make them your own but hopefully do so at a reasonable price.

(I haven’t linked them all, but I have included the vendors name with each photo to help find them)

The hardest part of this post, is in deciding which item to open with, because I love them all! However, I have gone on and on about “if you need to take baby steps start with the accessories”, so that is where I will begin.

I absolutely adore this vintage Japanese scarf from Atomic Salvage! Isn’t it amazing? This scarf was made in the 60s but could be hot of the screen press. The colour is perfect if you want to work it in with Navy or ice blue. If the great colour combination doesn’t make you smile, the  sense of whimsy in the graphic will.

I was attracted to this necklace from I Find U Seek Vintage because it reminded me of the coral roses coat from Prada that is all over the fashion mags and every girls wishlist. The little orange/coral coloured roses also have a sense of the current Prada jewelry range. This one certainly makes me have Prada on my mind.

These shoes from Storey Threads are sooo retro! To me they are screaming 1940s. The low heel means they are professional enough to wear to work, will be comfortable enough to walk the city and at less than $40 they’re a real bargain!

Moving on to the clothing items – You’ll be surprised to see a couple of these items are from the 60s. That would be the last time wearing orage and hot pink was all the fashion. Both the dress and the jacket would slip easily into any current runway.

I really like this jacket from Revival Vintage 206. The print is small enough to be somewhat subtle but with the mix or hot pink and white there is a lot of pizzazz going on. It could be worked into the colour-blocking trend by wearing a hot pink silky camisole/t-shirt and neon orange skinny jeans. Or keep it really fresh and classic by going all white underneath – tres chic!

The dress from Bitter Root Vintage Mad Men – do I need to say anymore??

While thinking of Mad Men, this shirt from TaraMi_Sioux, would be devine with my orange pencil skirt. The poppy print reminds me of growing up in California.

There is something about this sweater that I just love! I think it would be cute as if you played up the boy/man look buy having a tailored pair of pants or boyfriend jeans and a pair of brogues. It would be a great weekend, casual look. Check out Wear It Well Vintage for size and price.

I just couln’t resist at least one designer vintage piece. I love this bodysuit from Christian Lacroix at Love That Consignment!

p.s. even though this necklace is not Tangerine – I love it and think the blue with the gold accent would be a great accessory to an outfit that was working the tangerine and blue colour scheme. Check out ReanieGirl’s jewelry.
