Working It!

Let’s face it. Most of us have to work for a living. Or at least work to live it up!

Because of that simple detail, we will be Working It and looking at work appropriate clothing. No, this is not a “What I wore to Work Today” post. Yes, this look is highly variable depending on where exactly you work and what industry you are working in. So I will stick to things that I could wear to work and assume that many of you would consider doing the same. I spend a fair bit of my day zipping around the hospital. I only take the elevator when I first arrive, for the rest of the day it is stairs only. This is how I get a bit of exercise into my life and do my little bit to reduce my carbon footprint. I tend to wear kind of your basic active office type wear, with a few “I wish I worked somewhere that would let me get away with wearing that” kind of looks. Which means most of the time I save the really high heels for another time and place.

It was interesting to search for photos that would “work” with this topic. Most of what I found was black or gray, very structured and sometimes not that exciting. Don’t get me wrong, these are great looks and I have been known to sometimes wear very similar looks to work. But they are more the rarity than the norm for me.

Black is just not that great with my skin tone. And as you age, your colouring begins to fade a bit so black really can make you look like death warmed over!

Besides, I work in a hospital! Can’t I find something a little more joyous to wear to work?!

I find it fun to be fashionable at work and am usually planning at least a day ahead what I’m going to be wearing. I love to add a bit of colour, fun, or whimsy to any outfit and work clothing is no exception.

At least these two photos of work wear opted for either a splash of colour or a slight sense of whimsy.

Work wear need not be dull. All structured classics don’t have to be in black or gray. And working hard doesn’t have to be all gloom and doom.

Over the next few days, I’m hoping we can discover a few things in the wardrobe that really show off our personality and bring a bit of joy to getting up for the 9 to 5!
