That’s Bloody Jeanious!

Jean, denim, whatever you want to call it, that Levi Strauss guy was brilliant! Sure, he didn’t invent the stuff but he sure made it available to the masses.

To think that I have a photo of my great-grandmother and a bunch of miners in Silverton, Colorado that was taken around 1900 and a few of the guys are wearing Levi’s “fancy new work pants”. Fast forward to 2012 and what person do you know that doesn’t own at least one pair of the old standard blue jeans? Not to mention THE jeans to have at the moment…skinny and in every colour you can imagine!

Wouldn’t ol’ Granny Martin be amazed. Not only are women wearing jeans but sometimes we even pay hundreds of dollars to get that pair that fits us just right.

Woman: “Does my bum look big in these jeans?”

Now deceased Husband: “No. Those jeans look big on your bum.”

(Sorry, couldn’t resist. It’s just the kind of thing the Fashion Mister would say on one of his brave days!)

Yes gran, you even find it on the runway! And it’s not just jeans, it’s “denim on denim”. Probably one of the hardest looks to get right. Just ask these two. Poor Britt, is this the moment it all went so terribly wrong? Funny thing, I don’t remember everyone giving JT such a bagging for his look. Anyway, that’s a post for another day. At least the Derek Lam look above is far more stylish.

Funny, this lot of celebs in their jeans looks nearly as scruffy as my Gran and the Boys at the mine. There has to be a way to do jeans, colored or not, and denim on denim that looks at least presentable? I get comfort but I also think style is a bit above looking like you couldn’t be bothered. And these ladies know when they go out they are going to be photographed! Hopefully as I look through the wardrobe I’ll be able to do better. I’m sure you’ll let me know if I don’t! And I would expect you to let me know, because friends don’t let friends leave the house looking like Britney here.

So, here we are, over 100 years on and we still can’t get enough. Now THAT is a style icon!
