As always, I like to have a look at what vintage items are around that work with the trend I am currently working in my wardrobe. Part of the reason I do this is because I love vintage. I love finding a one of kind piece. I love thinking of the life my new vintage find may have had before me and I love the price! It means I don’t feel so guilty when I splurge on a designer piece.
It was interesting this week to see what was out there in Vintage Denim land and to see what, if anything I could find that I would consider working into my wardrobe. Or that was likely to be relevant to the denim daze craze in 2012. I was kind of surprised by some things, bored and underwhelmed by others. Here is what I found and how I would work it.
(As always, the photos are linked to the page on Etsy.com for the item – for your convenience)
The Classic Denim Jacket – Because really, other than jeans what item is more denim classic than a jacket. This is one of those denim items that can do so many things…rock chic…cowgirl…urban. You can’t dress it up too much but it would be cute with a floral dress and wedges. Or go denim on denim with the boyfriend jeans. I think I would like to see it with white skinny jeans and a vintage concert t-shirt. But please, make it a concert you attended – keep it real! And you know I would have to pull on a pair of my cowboy boots with the look!
Floral Denim Daisy Dukes – I can’t wear short-shorts, not age appropriate as my bum cheeks would be hanging out! But (pun intended!), for those of you who are younger and/or firmer, these would be too cute for the summer. Imagine them paired up with a pale yellow sleeveless top, cute leather sandals or even bright yellow wedges and a stack of bangles. Too cute in my opinion! Or if you are into shorts in the winter…With a big sweater, tights and a pair of boots for a slightly rougher look.
Flare / Bell-bottom Jeans – Naturally I loved these the moment I saw them! They look very much like my favourite pair of J Brand Flares but only cost $48!! How can you go wrong with that? In the previous posts I have given any number of options for how to wear the 70s high-waisted flare with flair. Don’t go too hard on the retro look as it can look like you are going to a costume party but definitely get a pair of platforms to wear with these! They’ll make your legs look forever long!
Retro Romper – One pieces are so hot right now. And how easy to put together an outfit? Top and bottom are already sorted for you! All you need to add are a great pair of shoes and some big statement earrings. I would wear this for going out to play! This romper could be sexy flirty or just plain fun depending on how you accessorize it. The choice is up to your mood.
All of these items are fairly inexpensive compared to what you could pay brand new and if you happen to be the right size for them, I think they could make a great addition to any wardrobe.
Would you add any of these? How would you style them and make them your own?
