Simplify Entertaining – The Drinks Trolley

The Fashion Mister and I met a little later in life and weren’t going to be raising a family together so we have had the luxury of being able to do things for ourselves. One of those things was that when we bought our house eight years ago we bought a house that we love, that is perfect for two and the occasional visitors and that is relatively low maintenance so we can go away on long holidays.

However, that means no big grand living room for entertaining. As we are a couple that likes to have some friends over and yes, we like to have a cocktail now and again, we needed to create a little space for mixing drinks. So off we went to the local antique auction and purchased a Jacobean Tea Trolley.

As you know, with my outfits I like to mix feminine and masculine or hard and soft. I do the same with decorating my home. We have a number of more “modern” elements in the living/lounge room so it’s nice to have a few things with some history, which is why I chose this style for a drinks trolley.

I also like that it has a little of the Gentlemens Room quality about it. I like that it has wheels so is easy to move. But best of all is that the top lifts off and becomes a serving tray!

We tend to keep a few different spirits available so we can mix up something for anyone who drops around. Plus we keep a pretty well stocked selection of wine.

In a way, it keeps things simple. We know where everything is, it’s all together so making decisions and choices is easy. Kind of like my wardrobe, well organised!

Plus, when we are entertaining it keeps us right there with our friends which is where I want to be.

Here are a few other drinks trolley’s to inspire you to create your own little entertaining nook.

Love the rustic, industrial feel of this one and the storage space for wine on the bottom is handy if you have limited space.

Clean modern lines. Especially nice if you want to maintain the open space feel as it has a fine structure that doesn’t block the eye line.

A couple more, just because I can! And probably because I love a good drinks trolley. They truly transport me back to another time. Perhaps a little Great Gatsby or even a little Poirot, but no matter, I love them!

Do any of you utilise a drinks trolley?

How do you keep yourself organised while entertaining?

You know I am on a mission this week to find ways to simplify things so if you have any thoughts or suggestions on how to simplify entertaining please feel free to share!
