Spring 2012 – Vintage Haul

As I mentioned yesterday, the weather is wet and grey. So what better to do with this kind of day than go shopping!

Of course not just any shopping, but vintage shopping for spring 2012. I only spent $30! Here’s the haul.

Spring 2012 - Vintage Haul

Spring 2012 – Vintage Haul

Vintage Haul: I couldn’t resist stopping by my favourite op/thrift shop to see if I could find anything interesting for Spring 2012. Of course I wasn’t disappointed! There is a gold brocade shift dress. Perfect for summer and it has a hint of the Baroque trend that is in right now. The paisley print wrap-dress will get a lot of wear. I love a good wrap dress, especially one with 3/4 sleeves. The colours are great for Spring/Summer 2012 as the blues are the colour of the ocean. The silk shirt is more a charcoal grey than it appears in the photo and has a bit of shimmer about it. The trim has a hint of a copper shimmer too. It’s really quite pretty and I like the feminine detail in the petal effect of the collar. Both handbags are metallic mesh and were $5 each!

The Shirt: You should be able to tell the shirt is a little more charcoal coloured in this photo and you can clearly see the shimmer.

Vintage Haul - Mesh Handbag

Vintage Haul – Mesh Handbag

Mesh Handbag: The smaller of the two handbags is a blue-grey colour and has a thin mesh shoulder chain. The creamy gold bag has a gold chain that can be worn either over the should or short  around the wrist.

I know I will get a lot of use out of this $30 spend and I promise to make sure there are photos when I do.

Do you have a favourite item from the lot? Any thoughts on how I should style my Spring 2012 – Vintage Haul?

Great haul! Love the shift dress! Definitely on trend with the brocade but my favorite is the silk shirt I think. Very girly!

Great finds! I love the blue wrap dress…gorgeous. I prefer 3/4 sleeves over long ones. Nice job.

  • Paula Parisotto

Wow! You did well yesterday. I’m jealous!!!!!!
Since you asked…….the wrap dress would be perfect with the blue clutch, simple silver and/or pearl jewelry and a nude heel. Any other color heel would take away from the gorgeous fabric. I am seeing the black blouse (which is stunning) with a pencil skirt in camel or a nice plaid. No necklace, simple earrings, perhaps a watch and/or bracelets. Heels of course. The shift dress would be lovely belted (define your waist) with a lil’ scarf or layers of long necklaces. A belted cardigan would be lovely too.

Wish I were there to play dress-up with you.

Thanks for all the great suggestions Paula!
It’s very handy having a friend who is a stylist!! 🙂
I hadn’t thought about any of those versions so now I have three more looks out of these pieces.
I think I know exactly which pencil skirt for the charcoal top…it should be great.
A belted cardigan over the brocade dress is going to be awesome! Can’t wait to give it a try!
      Cheers,
      Laura
p.s. I wish you were here too!

Great finds for less than 30.00. Oh how I miss thrift/vintage shopping!

    • astimegoesbuy

      Jeni,
Such a bargain that I find it very hard to resist stopping in for a regular look.
This is the same op shop where I found the brand new Louis Vuitton wallet a couple of months ago!
I’m sure I won’t find anything like that again but I have found a fair few other lovely little gems. 🙂
Why are you missing thrift shopping? You aren’t someplace without an op/thrift shop are you??
      That would be too hard!
      Cheers,
      Laura

No thrift store shopping here! There is Sunday vintage flea market in the city of Catania which is approx 40 minutes away. I’ve been meaning to go but you know how that goes. Once I do, Im sure to post about it!

      • astimegoesbuy

Yes, good intentions and all that. I do understand!
We don’t have the best retail in my town…in that a lot of it is just not my style…so I am glad to have pretty good thrifting going on!
I love to go to Melbourne to shop because the choice is endless.

Stunning dresses mrs – and lovely bags too – go you!

  • ethelthedean

My brain is blown by your finds! Totally adorable – especially that dress! Meep!

    • astimegoesbuy

      Thank you little missy!
      It was a great day!
I’m totally rapt with each piece and would have been happy to have only found any one of them.
To get the whole lot for $30 is fantastic!
I’m very much looking forward to wearing them.
      Cheers,
      Laura

  • spashionistareport

You get a gold star for this shopping trip! I love every single piece and you’re just motivating me to find a thrift store that has items as nice as these on a consistent basis.

    • astimegoesbuy

The secret is the part of town.
This op/thrift shop is in an area where people have a little extra money (not too much mind you).
There are a lot of new developements around it and at this time is the only one in the area so must be were everything goes!
I have one other that is pretty good for different stuff but I haven’t had much time to get to that one lately,
      Cheers,
      Laura

Unfortunately for me, I cannot afford to shop…Sooo I shop vicariously…through others. Love this boroque trend. Have to find my own way to work it into my ‘Drobe.

Wow, you got some sweet deals on some cute clothes! I love them all but that wrap dress is really nice. I’m jealous that you can find things that fit you. I always have to alter things to fit. Have fun with your new outfits!
    Beth

    • astimegoesbuy

But Beth, when YOU alter things they turn out looking so much better than when they started!
I can’t sew which means I am really lucky to find things that fit. 🙂
      The wrap dress is fantastic.
Hard to pass up a good wrap dress.
      Cheers,
      Laura

  • Born To Organize

What great finds. I love the blue dress and the bag. Rain. I’m so envious. I love rain and we get so little of it in our arid climate.

    • astimegoesbuy

We have had so much of it, rain that is, that I’m thinking everything is turning mushy.
I would like some warm weather, a little heat on the old bones. 🙂
The blue wrap dress is great! I love it too!
      Cheers,
      Laura

      • Born To Organize

We seem to have rain and drought disproportionate to need. What a mess. I hope you get some heat soon.

      • astimegoesbuy

We had 15 years of drought and things were getting dire but the past two years have been pretty wet.
I am hoping this is the year thngs become “normal” again. 🙂

      • Born To Organize

Wow! 15 years of drought is a very long time. I live in the Bay Area of California. We had a seven year drought in the mid-eighties, followed by heavy rains in the mid-nineties, then a more typical trend. Last year we only had 3 inches of rain by January (typical is 12 – 18 inches). We got a bit of late season rain, but not enough to make up for it.

Here’s to a more typical rain year for us all.

      • astimegoesbuy

I grew up not far from you, up in the foothills and remember there being a pretty good forest fire in the mid eighties due to the drought.
Yes, as you say, here is a return to normal rainfall for us all!

      • Born To Organize

Yes! I remember that fire near the Santa Cruz mountains. 1985 or ’86 if I recall. I didn’t realize you grew up around here. Such a small world!

      • astimegoesbuy

I grew up near Yosemite…Sonora to be exact!
And yes, it is a small world. One of the other blogs I read, Detta Moda, and I have found heaps of things in common including a connection to Sonora and the Calaveras County Frog Jump! Now that is weird! 🙂

      • Born To Organize

        Wow!

Isn’t if fun though? How many millions of bloggers out there, and yet you find people with things in common. I love that.

      • astimegoesbuy

Sometimes it’s such a reminder of how connected we are.
That in this day and age of people moving all around the world we naturally gravitate to those who are similar…even in the blogosphere.
It’s nice to be “connected” to some lovely Californians like you and Paula at Detta Moda. 🙂
        Cheers,
        Laura
        xx

      • Born To Organize

Indeed it is. I’ll have to check out Paula’s blog too.

  • Bee

I wish I could find more vintage shops in central italy! I love your clothes and it’s amazing you’ve managed ti spend just 30$!! Well done!

    • astimegoesbuy

      Thanks Bee!
Not every trip to the shops are as productive but once in awhile I strike gold!
It’s a great joy to spend so little on nice clothes and it means I can spend more on lovely food and wine 😉
      Cheers,
      Laura
