Spring Racing 2012 – Melbourne Cup Day

It’s “The Race That Stops a Nation“, the highlight of the Spring Racing Carnival, where all the prize money is there for the fastest horse who runs the best race. For the ladies, Melbourne Cup Day is all about bright colours and colour blocking in 2012.

This should be the year to tip a winner, with neon, brights and colour blocking all hot trends to be found in haute couture and high-street. Finding the right look for Melbourne Cup Day this year should be easier than tipping the winner of the big race.

Melbourne Cup Day Brights

Melbourne Cup Day Brights

Brights, Neon and Colour Blocking: Melbourne Cup Day is the perfect chance to really get into three of this seasons biggest and boldest looks. Colour is key for this race day. The bolder, the better! Mix and match your colours. Today, you WANT to be noticed for all the right reasons.

Melbourne Cup Day – Colour Blocking

Melbourne Cup Day: Any of these looks are perfect for a race day worthy of stopping the nation. Bold colour blocking will stop everyone in their “tracks” and ensure you come out a winner. (Sorry, couldn’t resist all the puns). Be bold, be brave or stay home today.

Melbourne Cup My Way 2012

Melbourne Cup My Way 2012

Melbourne Cup My Way: If I weren’t in Spain, this is what I would be wearing to the Melbourne Cup this year. I love the robin’s egg blue top. It’s a little lady like with the kind of bow detail at the neck but is a little daring with the exposed shoulders. You may recall me saying that I love an exposed shoulder, so this top is a natural. The bright yellow-gold skirt is simple and chic and as I am tall I can get away with the length. I think a dark or navy blue cloche-style hat such as the one in the picture would give a Great Gatsby look to this outfit. The addition of my Jeffery Campbell floral heels from FreePeople, ties it all together and the heel is perfect for wearing down on the lawn and standing all day.

What do you think?  Have I got it right with this look? What would you wear?
