What Do I Want to Be When I Grow-Up?

Usually my response to the question, what do I want to be when I grow up, is “I don’t want to grow up”! However, earlier in the week my lovely, funny and crazy smart friend Ness at Rant and Roll was contemplating growing up and it got me thinking. I’m going to turn 50 later this year, and I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.

I know I don’t want to be boring, bland or beyond enjoying life!

And then a light went on. I may not know what I want to be when I grow up, but I know WHO I want to be when I grow up.

Yeap, I want to be Iris Apfel!

Well I don’t know that I actually want to live into my 90s, but if I do, I want to be as fabulous as Iris. Talk about someone who knows her style and has her own point of view…Iris is it. As for “more is more”, yeap, Iris has that one down pat too.

She’s 41 years older than me and she rocks the fashion world with her style every day. Inspiring blogs (Advanced Style) and all who see her petite frame, grey hair and trademark spectacles are instantly in love.

I knew when I turned 40, I could be a better version of me by the time I turned 50. And I think I am. Now I hope that when I reach, 60, 70 and maybe even 80 that I can continue to improve. I don’t want to age gracefully. I want to mature like a fine wine, getting smoother, silkier and just plain stellar with each passing decade.

Please Mother Nature, grant my wish. I may not know what I want to be when I grow-up but I do want to be at least as amazing and stylish as Iris Apfel.
