Everything in Australia is Great!

I have lived here for just over eleven years and often have I had a good chuckle over the fact that everything in Australia is great! Or Big. But my favourites are the “greats”.

When I first came to Australia on holiday it was mandatory that I spend a few days up north, at The Great Barrier Reef.

It was beautiful and the only time I have seen fish and clams bigger than people! The water was crystal clear and yes, it really was GREAT!

Then I headed south to Victoria and drove along the Great Ocean Road.

Beautiful blues skies. Amazing rock formations, stunning blue water. Again I thought, this is GREAT!

From Victoria I headed over to South Australia.

What did I see there? The Great Australian Bight!

Supposedly it looks like a bight (bite) has been taken out of the coastline. I think it looks a little like the White Cliffs of Dover or even the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland. But here in Australia…it is GREAT!

Then I went back to the US for 8 months before immigrating to Australia. Now after eleven years, there are still a couple of GREAT things I haven’t seen…

Oh wait, I take that back. I have seen the GREAT Dividing Ranges. The southern tail of them are not far from here down around Halls Gap. It’s actually a very pretty spot. In fact, I have been up to Mt Bright to see the snow too, so I have been to the Great Dividing Range.

So that just leaves the Great Australian Desert!

I’ll get there eventually. Hopefully it will still be great once I finally do.

So as soon as you realize that everything in Australia is Great, you also find out that they love their “Big” things too. But I’ll save that for another day.
